Diabetic Menu
Tuesday, June 09th, 2009 | Author: Beamer

Alright!  This is it!  I am now officially freaked out!

I swear on 12 Jelly Donuts, 5 Pots of Coffee and anything else I have lying around of any value, someone at StumbleUpon is watching me!  They have to be!  There is no other explanation.

How else would you explain, that less than 24 hours after hearing my doctor tell me I am Pre-Diabetic, I landed on this blog?

diabetic

Diabetic Menu. Do you see that?  Diabetic Menu!

My doctor just told me that if I don’t start watching my diet, I could be in for some serious trouble.  And given the fact that several people in my family are either already Diabetic or are borderline, I think I’ll pay attention to him.

He says that I can avoid this disease by following a Pre-Diabetic Menu.  But the one he gave me in his office is so difficult to understand.  And even harder to shop for.

Thank goodness for Diabetic Menu.

The author explains that, while it may be bad news that I have to stop eating the way I’ve always eaten in order to avoid this disease, the good news is that the diet doesn’t have to be bland and boring.

So I checked out this post – Diabetes Menu Plans – and found that I need to base my meal planning on the following suggestions:

  • Breads, grains, starchy foods and legumes- intake should be between 5 to 10 helpings
  • Vegetables and fruits- 3 to 6 helpings
  • Milk and yogurt- 3 to 5 helpings
  • Meat (proteins)- 1 to 3 helpings
  • Fats and sweets-you should use these sparingly or none at all

I was especially pleased to see this:

The major composition of your diet should be from fruit and vegetables, a third from cereals, breads and potatoes and another third from meat, fish and dairy products or suitable alternatives to animal products to cater for vegetarians.

I work in a bakery and one of the best parts of my job is grabbing a hot dinner roll right from the oven.  And since I don’t indulge in milk or ice cream or other dairy products, it looks like I can still put some butter on it, too!

And here’s another interesting tidbit – (I’m going to print this blog and take it to my doctor.  I don’t think he reads enough!)

Low blood sugar, AND high blood sugar, weight gain, lack of energy and other things are just a few of the possible side effects for a diabetic who does not undertake a healthy diabetic diet plan.

He never said anything about my blood sugar possibly going both ways!

I must admit, though, that maybe he didn’t mention it because I didn’t ask.  I was only kidding before when I said I was going to print out this blog, but now I’m thinking that might be a good idea.

Another good reason to visit  Diabetic Menu is to check out the link the author has posted that will show you how to get FREE healthy samples of products like Robitussin – Alavert – Purel, more.

Thank you, StumbleUpon, for another timely stumble.   I wonder where I’ll end up next?

After reading the comments here I have to say that it is very refreshing to find a blog about a niche where the topics stay on point about the industry. I’m not everything, but the majority is on point and beneficial. Keep it going.
