Nothing strikes more fear into this single girl’s heart than the thought of a ghost or poltergeist
lurking in my closet. Every time I do the research for the Freaky Friday
post, I get so freaked out I have to sleep with a light on for a week. That’s why this is only the second episode! I got too freaked out last week and couldn’t put the post together!
This time, I’m setting this post up while it’s still light outside!
My faithful friend, StumbleUpon, has once again led me to a great video to start off this episode of Freaky Friday.
How many times have you come home after a long day at work and found, say, one of your shoes lying in the middle of the living room floor? You think to yourself, “Now, why in the world would I have left one shoe in the middle of the living room?” And you honest-to-GOD cannot remember doing it. In fact, you’re sure you put it right next to it’s partner, in the closet.
Or how about that time you were sitting at your computer, in the den, and quietly typing away, when you suddenly heard the TV come on in the bedroom upstairs?!
And this happened to me just 2 nights ago – I was sitting at my computer, again, and I heard my vaccuum cleaner come on, all by itself, upstairs in the empty bedroom!
When the so-called “experts” discuss Poltergeist Activity, the often attribute it to pranks or offer some plausible explanation. Maybe you DID drop that shoe as you were headed upstairs and just didn’t notice it. (But don’t you think you would have heard it hit the floor?) Maybe the neighbor’s TV remote just happened to switch to the same frequency as your TV. (But why did it never happen before? And why the Sci-Fi channel?!) And maybe the storm outside cause some kind of power surge that turned on the vaccuum cleaner. (It’s upstairs in the empty bedroom because it hasn’t worked for 2 months and I’m just 2 lazy to drag it down and out to the trash!)
Here’s the offending video I Stumbled on, which will now cause me to sleep, for another week, with the lights on and my dog snuggled tightly in my arms!
OK. So, maybe it was a tremor, like before an earthquake or something, right? Well, how do you explain those paper towels jumping from the coffee table to the sofa? If it was a tremor, wouldn’t they just have rolled off the table?
Here’s another video, same guy, same house, same dogs, different room —-
Still not convinced? Did you notice the picture on the wall moving? Too freaky! If that one didn’t do it for you, here’s the third video this guy shot of his Truly Terrifying Poltergeist Experience! Do NOT watch this one alone!
All 3 videos were posted on YouTube by kshizzle27. I’m hoping, for the sake of the dogs at least, that this guy has since changed his address!
Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about Poltergeists:
Poltergeist (help·info) (from German poltern, meaning to rumble or make noise, and Geist, meaning “ghost“ or “spirit“) denotes an invisible spirit or ghost that manifests itself by moving and influencing objects, generally in a particular location such as a house or room or place within a house. Poltergeists have been reported in many cultures. Each has its own name for the phenomenon, while the features of the phenomenon are the same everywhere (rapping noises, object movement etc). This does not prove that the phenomenon is real however, but rather that it is a common experience and may be due to a common psychosis. Places that poltergeists have been reported include India (where they are known as a Mumai), the United States, England, Japan and Brazil.
While not everyone believes in ghosts, a lot of people DO believe in the power of the Poltergeist, since the appearance of said ne’er-do-well is usually associated with an angst ridden teenager in the house – especially girl type teenagers. Poltergeists, they say, are not your typical ghosts or spirits visiting from beyond, but emotionally charged telekinetic impulses that come from the teenagers themselves. This assumption is based on the fact that most poltergeist activity is exactly the same activity that a spoiled, bratty child would exhibit – tossing objects around, moving pictures, knocking on walls, etc. Usually harmless, but always disturbing!
If you’ve followed Stumble Rumba at all, you know I don’t stop with just the first Stumble. I keep digging (get it? digging? as in graves? oh….forget it!) to see what else I can turn up for your entertainment.
That’s how I found this very interesting little video. I am now, officially, freakin’ out!
Ghost Stories: Real Life Poltergeist - Click here for funny video clipsAnd with just a little more searching, I was able to find another Poltergeist related clip on YouTube. I’m sure you’ll recognize this one!
I loved that movie! Craig T. Nelson is such a dad in this one and JoBeth Williams is wonderful! To this day, I cannot look at a clown doll. When my daughter was very young, someone unknowingly gave her a doll similar to the one in this movie and, although she had never seen the movie, she didn’t want the doll in her room! Isn’t that too weird? Out of the mouths of babes….
Well, I think we should end this post on a lighter note – if only so I can get some sleep sometime in the next week or so! Here’s another classic Poltergeist-ish video. Hope you all enjoy!
